Lindenwood Park Neighborhood Association
Board of Directors Meeting
February 21, 2026
Saturday, Machecek Library – 10:00 AM

Present: Sara Davis, Tim Nowell, Milton Murry, Greg Roggeman, Lisa Roggeman, Adam Rustige, Jay Unnerstall, Greg Todd, Pat Acquisto; Emily Yale; Karen Clifford
Guests: Stephen Lindemann, Tom Doyle, Mike Kelly, Russell Javity

Stephen Lindemann is interested in creating a café from the park building offering a simple menu with coffee/wine. Wants to support the community with something that fits into the landscape. He is a builder by trade and understands the potentials/constraints of this type of project. He is prepared to address lighting, bathrooms and can communicate with Bret and the city about general park needs; will keep Emily and Adam in the loop.

Russell Javity owns 3221 Ivanhoe next to Pilates studio and is creating a music studio. He and his wife Marcia are from New Orleans. They will sell concessions for music workshops working with the St. Louis String Collective, blue grass education program and have jam sessions of different music styles. The space can hold up to 25 people, and they have talked to other businesses close by about parking issues. They already have a conditional use permit.

Mike Kelly is with Alley Farmers Markets and works with Brightside. This program manages setting up alleys to provide ways for people to sell things from their backyards/garages. The program has been successful in Sacramento California. They are looking for 50 participants by March 17th, needing 3-4 per alley. Urban Planning group Eyes on the Street is a functioning group that supports this as a safety aspect. Mike is a civil engineer who can communicate with Bret and the city for technical needs in the alleys. They do clean-up, help homeowners with garage doors etc.

A motion was made to approve the minutes from January by Tim; Jay seconded; motion passed

Neighborhood Meeting: to be held at Watson Terrace Christian Church, March 2
Mayor will speak for 15 minutes; Jay will present her with his book and then Jane Ponzi from the new community radio station CRSTI will speak. Tim will provide coffee

Meetups:

January’s Meetup at My Place was a big success, had around 30 people. My Place would be a good sponsor
February 24th– Ari’s confirmed
March 25th – Afghan Kabob House confirmed for Wednesday

Concerts:

The May 24th Lindenwood Live permit has to be in by Tuesday, March 24th with insurance attachments, a letter from Bret with certificate of insurance and emergency plan with traffic control plan. The band, Fanfare is scheduled for May and Proud Larry for another concert. Food trucks will be back from last year except for Crooked Boot. The drink vendors will be 4 Hands and Slinks Drinks. Greg will use list of city permitted food trucks for two more.

LinFest:

Pat emailed Laurie Klein about chairing LinFest, but got no response. Permits are needed 90 days before and letters go out by May. Combining with concerts was discussed. Discussion also brought up original reason for LinFest was to help area restaurants, but they have not been participating. Adam made a motion for a vote in favor or against the continuation of LinFest. The board unanimously voted against it.

Neighborhood Alliance:

The Alliance will meet with the mayor for code enforcement information and homelessness action. $150 was used to provide 10 dozen donuts to the street department in appreciation and thanks for winter storm cleanup.

Park:

Emily reported on the January 5th meetings with the city Parks department and was surprised that 1 tennis court will be converted to pickleball and both courts will be resurfaced this coming Spring. A request was again made to the city for more 2026/2027 budget information. Emily submitted a letter to Greg Hayes, Kim Haegele and Bret requesting the repair of all drinking fountains, a new fence along Jamieson, more trees and bathroom signage for repair of the drinking fountain. The issue with the city is having to repair all plumbing in city parks with one plumber. Greg Todd suggested asking for offering matching funds for drinking fountains to show partnership with city.  Park Clean-up is scheduled for May 2nd. A smaller amount of mulch will be requested to be delivered closer to tennis courts.

NIS Report:

Complaints are being addressed about trash on Watson. Winter street cleaning works on a 12-15 hours a day schedule, people can file a service request for clearing the piles of snow dumped by the plows at intersections. There was discussion about trash bin violations of people leaving their bins out too long. A suggestion was made to tape forms onto bins about violation fees. Parking on Ivanhoe could be improved by painting the curb in front of bars, safety committee will discuss.

Gardens:

Compost bins are full; beds are being filled and cleaned up; still needs helper with Wabash garden. Milton is requesting more information from city about future storm damage plans.

Green Team:

April 25th is the next planned clean-up event. Trash on the I44 entrance is an ongoing issue; more clean-up help is needed.

Communication:

Working on being able to use Square to purchase items from website. Could also work for food truck payments.

Membership:

38 Welcome packs were delivered in February for November through January new residents. Still waiting for extra information to be delivered for inclusion in the packs. Lisa did a one-time big photocopy at the library of all the info provided instead of doing it quarterly. She also purchased welcome pack envelopes and stamps.

There are 305 current members, down from 309 in January. Reminder letters were sent out to 20 members who lapsed in January (3 renewals).

Block Captains:

13 people, including 2 guests, attended the meeting. Shawn Ordway, Assessor, was the guest speaker. He explained how properties are assessed and how the senior tax freeze works. Mike Kelly from Princeton Heights spoke about a new initiative he’s hoping to get started throughout the city – an alley produce swap meet. Perhaps involve Aaron?

Greg Todd gave Lisa a list of all parcels (properties) in Lindenwood Park. She has created a spreadsheet for Laurie to work with, listing every single block in Lindenwood Park, allocating existing block captains to the blocks. We currently have 54 block captains, 245 blocks, and 4329 properties in Lindenwood Park. Lisa has asked Laurie to keep it up to date and let her know of any changes so that we can keep the website up to date.

Safety:

Adam sent a letter to Bret for work needed along Jamison (bump outs, signage). Josh Brown is a resource for STL sustainability and signage plan. Discussion about medians north of Pernod which are buckled and need repair.

Old Business:

Greg R made a motion to buy 200 more books from Jay, with a second from Tim. The price point is 100 for $11.57 each; 200 are $10 each. A discussion was made about using books as a membership motivator.

New Business:

Thursday the 26th of February is a meeting hosted by Quick Trip at Watson Terrace Christian Church with handouts, discussion and questions. We are the last neighborhood for this meeting, and we will be asking Bret for zoning information.
Missouri Life has published an article about the 100th anniversary of Route 66.
Jose Gomez of Gomez Upholstery wants to provide a sculpture of some kind to LPNA. Discussed placement perhaps in park with plaque and invite him to April meeting. Lisa will follow up.
Shelby Schroeder with Consumers Council of Missouri (just renewed membership) contacted Lisa about answering questions and providing updates about our rising utility rates. Possible guest speaker?

Meeting adjourned at 11:30

Respectfully submitted,
Sara Davis
