Update on Trees, Trash and Honeysuckle, by Aaron Dohogne:

Honeysuckle: Propose a project to remove the honeysuckle between Pernod and Oleatha on Wabash.  Ameren owns the property and will need to contact them to promote the project.  Honeysuckle is an evasive plant and does not provide nutrition for bees and birds. Want to remove honeysuckle along the fence line. Patrick R. Brown is the new contact at Ameren.  Karen will provide contact info to Aaron.  Patrick has previously worked for the city.  Aaron will appeal for volunteers to keep the area mulched, weeded and tidy and will continue working with Alan from Forestry, Ameren and LPNA.

Trees: Aaron bought 2 more larger trees for the park at $90 each from Forest ReLeaf, to replace 2 that died.  He wants to buy more larger trees that will provide shade in spectator areas (north and south of the hockey rink).  These would be planted in the Fall and will ask Forest ReLeaf to deliver.  Will also ask Forestry if they would provide the trees as that would be free.

Trash: Had a great response to the last trash pickup around the park in April.  Want to make this a monthly event.  Next trash pickup is scheduled for May 29th and will advertise it on Facebook.

2 Amendments were made to the minutes of April 14, 2021: Cori Bush is a US Representative and correction of the spelling of Mike Dauphin – City Assessor.

The Minutes from April 14, 2021 were approved.  Motion made by Adam and 2nd by Lindsay.

Committee Reports

Alderman’s Report

Pop up events in the Park:

Have no problem with the events occurring as long as the event organizers obtain a permit from the city.  Joe will contact Loutique (clothing truck) and Blue Sky Yoga to advise them about the permit.  Food trucks are licensed and permitted to sell around the perimeter of the park but would need a permit to be in the park.

Circle K:

  • Completed all hearings and should be starting renovations in August. Joe will keep Kati updated on the progress.

Quik Trip:

  • Quik Trip will buy the property at the corner of Arsenal & Jamieson (24th Ward) and tear down the house next to it. Bret Narayan (Alderman) is perusing the proposal.  It was agreed that the LPNA Board was against this project.

Ballards on Jamieson:

  • Joe has requested the ballards to be replaced. Nothing has been done yet so he will ask again.

Mary Margaret Daycare:

  • Have applied for tax abatement, which is 50% of the increase on the new increase for 5 years.

23rd Ward Budget:

  • Joe will set up a meeting with any board members who’d like to attend to discuss streets, speed humps, part etc.

Forestry:

  • Joe will ask Forestry to cut grass at I-44 / Jamieson. This is becoming too big of a job for Tim or Milton and a larger and heavy-duty mower is required.

Streets & Properties & NIS Report:

  • 693x Sutherland: Will be evicted.
  • 67xx Fyler: Renters will be evicted.
  • 69xx Pernod: Vince will try to get a camera to record various incidents occurring. They have been cited.
  • Anmar Photography: They will possibly be selling. There’s a lot of cleaning up occurring.
  • Mobil on the Run: Will be issued with a C&D in the next 2 weeks and will meet with the owners.  Have approximately 200 calls for service over last 6 months.
  • Ballards: Have sent a request to have the ballards put back.
  • Bulk pickup: This is becoming an issue with people placing items out before schedule pickup.

Events:

  • Tweetup: May 25th from 6pm-8pm via Zoom. This will be promoted via Facebook, Nextdoor, Twitter, our website and Joe’s e-blast.  Take out from Edibles & Essentials is recommended.  June’s Tweetup on June 22nd could possibly be in-person and would be held at Pietro’s on the patio.
  • Lindenwood Live!: Tim contacted Joanne Anderson regarding the new mask mandate changes to see if this would change the permit application. The possibility is good to have a June concert.  Committee will meet to discuss the options.  Tim will contact the band and Greg will contact food trucks once they get clarification.
  • Lawn & Garden Contest: Gabe, Lisa and Emily Y will for this committee and get advice from Doug. Gabe requested $225 for 3 x $75 gift cards to be purchased as prizes from Bayers and/or Colors of Spring.  Motion made by Greg and 2nd by Milton.  The contest will run through June and judging will occur during the 1st 2 weeks of July.  Winners will be recognized at the September Neighborhood meeting.
  • Trivia: Pat will check with Timothy Lutheran about availability of the gym. Still debatable whether this will occur at short notice.

Beautification:

  • Park: cleanup went well and all flowers were planted. We have a new gardener for the Prather/Pernod bed – Patrick Klupe.  He has requested mulch for the garden and Craig will place an order for it.  A sweetgum tree across from the gazebo looks dead.  Emily to contact Kim to have it inspected.  A new flag is needed for the park.
  • Community Garden: Reaped the first crop and planting the 2nd Growth is a little slow with the cooler weather.
  • Wabash Garden: Need help with weeding and getting rid of honeysuckle. Milton will let Lisa know of a date and time and we will advertise on social media for volunteers to help.
  • Green Team: Scheduled for Saturday June 5th. 12 bags of trash were collected at the last cleanup!
  • Ivanhoe Planters: All planters have been planted.  Dan Waelterman donated lantana and tall grass for some of the planters.  They will need watering.

Communications

  • Wendy has done a lot of work on the Century Homes and Safety pages.
  • The shop is up and running from the menu on the main page.
  • There was an update so the website should be running faster.

Membership Report

  • We picked up approximately 20 new members, which includes 12 from the plaque sales.

Safety Committee

  • Safety Week will be May 23 – 29.
  • Adam will send Lisa a blurb for each day to post on social media.
  • Adam will send info to Greg for the Newsletter.
  • Magnets will be mailed out the same week to all LPNA members – approx. 250.

Century Homes:

  • Have received 22 requests for plaques. Need 25 to place a minimum order.
  • Some people have not yet received their letter informing them of the project.
  • Sales are going well, and we have broken even.

Old Business

  • Flags: Jack Beile is still handling the sale of the LP flags.
  • Signs: Membership and park cleanup yard signs will cost $17 each. Pat to place order.

New Business

  • Quik Trip: Pat to send letter to Bret Narayan advising him that the LPNA Board is against this project. We feel the Arsenal intersection is too small to accommodate a Quik Trip and it would cause traffic congestion.  Also reach out to Clifton Heights.
  • Park Building Cleanup: Possibly consider a park building cleanup 2 weeks after the Fall park cleanup.
  • Website Events: Currently only have the calendar on the dropdown menu under events on website. Lisa is requesting all event chairs to write up a short synopsis of their event to explain what it is about – no dates, just details and email contact info. Synopsis to be similar to the Directory info.  Lisa will reach out to chairs with more information.  Will ask Wendy to post it to the website.  Pat will send Lisa the writeups from the Directory

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 11.45am.

Respectfully submitted,

Lisa Roggeman
