On Wednesday, March 9, Great Rivers Greenway is hosting an open house at the Gateway Science Academy (6576 Smiley Avenue). You may stop by anytime between 5pm-8pm to learn the details of the River des Peres Greenway: Lansdowne Shrewsbury MetroLink to Francis R. Slay Park. The project is currently in design and scheduled for construction in 2017. This 1.5 mile paved greenway will extend the existing River des Peres Greenway and connect you with Carondelet Park, Jefferson Barracks and the Mississippi River.

What is the River des Peres Greenway?
The River des Peres Greenway is an outdoor space that connects people and
places. It is part of the River Ring, a plan for 600 miles of trails that will connect
communities, bike‐friendly streets, and our great rivers and parks throughout
our region in a network of greenways for you to explore and enjoy.
Who is Great Rivers Greenway?
Great Rivers Greenway, the regional parks and trails district, was created by a vote of the people to connect
St. Louis City, St. Louis County and St. Charles County. We’re making St. Louis an even better place to live by
connecting our region with greenways so you can be active, get around town, and enjoy being outside.
What does the River des Peres Greenway connect?
The River des Peres Greenway has direct connections to the Lansdowne Shrewsbury MetroLink Station, the
Holly Hills neighborhood and Carondelet Park. In the fall of 2016, it will connect to Lemay Park, the River City
Casino, Jefferson Barracks Park and the Pavilion in Lemay. In the future, the River des Peres Greenway will also
connect to Forest Park, Downtown Maplewood and Webster Groves and Grant’s Trail.
What is the timeline for construction of the River des Peres Greenway?
The segment of the River des Peres Greenway between the Lansdowne Shrewsbury MetroLink and Alabama
Avenue as well as the neighborhood connections to Christy Boulevard and Carondelet Park have already been
constructed. The greenway segment from Alabama Avenue to the Mississippi River will be constructed during
2016. The greenway segment between the Lansdowne Shrewsbury MetroLink Station and Francis R. Slay Park
will be constructed in 2017. The portion of the River des Peres Greenway between Francis R. Slay Park and
Forest Park will be constructed in the years to come.
Where is the funding for the River des Peres Greenway coming from?
Planning, design and construction of the River des Peres Greenway is funded through a regional sales tax.
Additional funding for the construction of the greenway segment between the Lansdowne Shrewsbury
MetroLink Station and Francis R. Slay Park is available through a federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality
Improvement (CMAQ) grant awarded to Great Rivers Greenway. These grants support transportation projects
that improve air quality and relieve traffic congestion.
Who maintains the River des Peres Greenway?
Mowing, plant care, and waste removal along the River des Peres Greenway is done by the City of St. Louis. If
you are interested in volunteering with litter and debris removal or plant care, please contact Great Rivers
Greenway at 314‐436‐7009.
