The Board was joined by Melissa Egan (Black Hole Studio), who is interested in opening a makerspace (3-D printing, crafting, fiber arts, open studio) at 3621 McCausland. She is seeking neighborhood association approval and a recommendation letter for a conditional use permit. The conditional use hearing is set for February 12 and Egan would like a waiver to operate prior to hearing.

A motion was made to approve the Minutes from November, by Sara Davis, and seconded by Tim Nowell.

Neighborhood Meeting: to be held at Watson Terrace Christian Church, March 2, 7pm

  • Guest speakers – QT (tentative)
  • LPNA Business
  • Elected Officials
  • LASM & Machacek

Aldermanic Report (Daniel Hill)

Bret sent the following updates to be presented by Daniel:

  • Board Bill 126: short-term rentals tax, moving forward, in committee now
  • Board Bill 100: earnings tax, city-wide vote every 5 years
  • Pickleball court will be added to Lindenwood Park in the late spring
  • Monthly meetings with the Mayor to address Ward priorities and elevate matters

Board members requested that Bret address two areas of concern. Jay requested information on Park funding and why the pickleball allocation was happening when Bret had previously indicated that it was not in the budget. Pat would like to know how Bret determines Ward priorities for the Lindenwood Park area in preparation for the Mayor monthly meetings.

NIS Report (Karen not in attendance)

Committee Reports

Events:

  • Meetups:

Confirmed: January – My Place; February – Ari’s; March – Afghan Kabob House; April – Chilanguita; May – Farmhaus
Tentative: June – Pietro’s; July – Biggie’s; August – Babe’s; September – Aya Sofia; October – El Paisano; November – Trattoria Marcella

  • Lindenwood Live: Tim is starting the application process for permits. Mark Close will be featured at the last concert. Other bands are being booked currently. Greg is looking into booking food trucks and a new beer vendor. Tim will not be in attendance at the Memorial Day concert.
  • Christmas Lighting Contest: Pat reported that Matt Walbaum facilitated the content and posted winners on Facebook.
  • LinFest: Pat will ask Laurie Klein to chair LinFest.

Beautification:

  • Park: The cleanup date (April 25) is the same as the Green Team date. Lisa will follow up with Emily to determine if the date can be moved.
  • Community Garden & Wabash Garden: Milt is preparing for an active spring with lots of interest in the community garden. Once the weather improves, he will start tackling bed repairs. Lots of new veggies are being cultivated. Still looking for someone to take over as the Wabash Garden supervisor.
  • Green Team: Tim noted the following dates have been set on the calendar for Green Team cleanup activities: April 25, June 6, September 5, and October 24. If turnout is low again this year, he may reduce the dates to 2-3 instead of 4 each year. Tim plans to contact the grass cutter about trimming around the chain length fence.

Communications:

  • Greg R. reported that the website and calendar have been updated. Someone has approached Greg about a potential website business sponsorship that would help cover the website hosting costs.

Membership:

Lisa Reported:

  • 44 Welcome packs for August, September, and October new residents.
  • 309 Current members (301 in November).
  • Reminder letters sent out to 22 members who lapsed in November (7 renewals), 22 members lapsing in December (2 renewed).
  • Membership committee meeting was held on November 10. A promotional flyer will be added to welcome packs, available at events, and shared on social media. Had 30 available at the membership meeting in December but only 3 were picked up. This is an LPNA promotion – not just a membership promotion, but with an emphasis on membership. Will also be looking into the cost for a Facebook ad – using “did you know’s” about the neighborhood and what LPNA does. The committee will schedule another meeting once Emily Rogier is back from vacation – in February.

The Board discussed raising the cost of membership. Lisa plans to ask the committee about the potential membership fee increase.

Safety:

  • Safety committee is focusing on pedestrian safety around Lindenwood Park. They sent a list of specific improvements (e.g. crosswalk illumination, larger stop signs, bump outs, pedestrian islands) to Parks to inquire about costs.

Block Captains:

  • The list of block captains is being updated.

Neighborhood Alliance:

  • Pat reported that a meeting with the Mayor is in the works. Topics will include homelessness and code enforcement in the City.

Century Homes:

  • The spring sale will start up in March. Postcards sent to century homeowners have not fielded a significant purchase of plaques. Pricing continues to increase each year.

 Treasurer’s Report:

  • Distributed by Pat.

Old Business

  • Lindenwood Park book – Jay reported on low sales over the holiday season and whether additional copies should be ordered. The new order of books would require a printing of at least 100. Realtors could purchase books as a new home gift. Sara Davis and Adam will check with Garcia Properties and Bridget Rodriguez to see if this is a potential avenue for sales.

New Business

  • Board Rolloffs:
    • Due to increasing professional obligations, Jenna Stout and John Harris will be rolling off the Board after the January meeting. Starting in February, Sara Davis will serve as the new secretary with Board approval. Both Jenna and John will continue on their respective committees of Century Homes and Safety.
    • Adam plans to roll off as president in January 2027.
  • Disaster Preparedness – Milt is interested in City resources and information regarding tornado disaster preparedness in light of the 2025 tornado and increasing severe weather. How would Lindenwood Park clean up in a similar situation?
  • Signage for street cleaning & pedestrian crossings (initiated by Tom Doyle’s emails) – Lisa will follow up Karen Clifford to see if she has anything in stock or if we can get them from MODOT.
  • Hoodies/sweatshirts with LPNA logo. $24.60 for hoodies & $20.65 for sweatshirts (add $2 for 2X and $3 for 3X) – this is for 30.
  • Lindenwood Park Place – for meetings? Discuss possibilities and costs. Could we have Board meetings, block captain meetings, safety meetings, events meetings there? Lisa and Tim will look at space to chat about use.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:15pm.

Respectfully submitted,
Jenna Stout
